Florida Flute Association Article #1

Image
Hey Everyone!! As a member of the Florida Flute Association (FFA), I was able to provide an article to their monthly member newsletter! I do plan to write more to explain some of the projects I have coming up but here's my first article! Beyond the Symphony: Symphonic Metal Flute™ Sara Vertanen | www.youtube.com/SaraVertanen Flute is an incredibly diverse instrument that can perform countless styles and genres. Though it’s typically typecast into classical, dainty, or new-age musical genres, one genre yet to be well explored is Heavy Metal. If you ask most people to describe metal music, they’ll often describe is as loud screaming with inaudible lyrics; but that’s not quite the case. Like the flute, metal music is incredibly diverse. One sub-genre that is often overlooked is Symphonic Metal. This type of metal combines classical elements, such as chamber choirs and full orchestra complete with strings, winds, and percussion with the standard elements of rock and m

Nemo Nightwish Flute Cover Sheet Music

Image
Hello Everyone!! "Nemo" by Nightwish is probably my favorite cover to perform live; especially since it was the first song I played in an Arena as a solo artist and I couldn't be more honored to have had that experience. Recently, there was a comment on the studio version that I recorded on my channel requesting sheet music and that request has been fulfilled now! I couldn't upload the PDF or anything high resolution as it will run the risk of being taken down for 'copyright' even though this is solely for education purposes and no profits were or are being made off me posting this sheet music.  This version is the "Floor Version" if you will haha The instrumental for Nemo can be found on YouTube for you to play along with. This sheet music works for Flute or any other treble cleft C instrument (such as violin, voice, and oboe) but can also be easily transposed for other instruments. Since I'm incredibly busy, I utilized Fiverr freelance servi

Sara V Productions

Another post to start with, "It's been too long!" With graduate school and new jobs and new adventures, things tend to get away from me sometimes. But here's an update in the world of Symphonic Metal Flute: Sara V Productions This one is probably the most major update. I've been learning a lot about entrepreneurship and business in general and really loved the whole process of learning new concepts. What better way to really learn something than by doing! I created Sara V Productions out of the videos I was taking of local bands during their live shows and editing them up with multiple camera angles and effects. The name "Sara V Productions" is mostly a simplified version of my last name, being that it's not the easiest thing in the world to remember. I have a secondary YouTube channel associated with this as well, titled "Sara V Productions" https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuz8HzUHIdyQ9yx567V8X5w Please subscribe so I may get a

Updates/Photography

Image
Hey everyone! I know I've basically been completely MIA here, but I'm back! (or at least I'll try much harder to be back). So a few updates, I no longer have a Facebook page and honestly, don't really miss it. But I did set up a new facebook page. Check it out and follow me there for photos and updates! https://www.facebook.com/SaraVMusic/ Additionally, I'm getting more into photography and videography. That being stated, I'm interested in offering studio portraits (specifically gearing towards the metal/rock aesthetic). Take a look at some of the shots I've been messing around with lately: Kippis! ~Sara Vertanen

Sleeping Sun Sheet Music

Image
Hello Everyone!! I've received a few comments on YouTube saying that the source where I originally got the sheet music for Sleeping Sun no longer has the sheet music. But hopefully this won't get taken down since it's a picture! I originally retrieved the sheets from www.blackrabbitinthedark.blogspot.com Please note that I DID NOT write this sheet music or arrange it or anything like that. Enjoy! Sara Vertanen

Microphone

Image
Hello Everyone! Just want to start off by saying THANK YOU to everyone who has subscribed, commented, liked, and watched my videos! I never expected my covers to get any interest and I'm very grateful! Miking the flute can be an 'tricky' task. There are many different publications and recommendations on how to properly amplify and record the flute so I wanted to share how I specifically record mine. Please note that I'm not an audio engineer (just an Environmental Engineer) so the following are just my opinions and experiences. Microphone Type I only own two microphones: a Shure Dynamic Mic and an MXL Large Diaphragm Condenser. I find that the dynamic mic is really not suited for recording flute in a studio setting. Great for vocals though. For recording flute, I highly recommend a large diaphragm condenser mic. My specific microphone is an MXL 1006. It's an amazing mic for the price however, it's no longer in production. I think the microphone that took

YouTube Blocked My Video!! (Canvas of Life Epica Flute Cover)

Image
Hey Everyone! As I'm positive many people know, I did/do not write the covers that I post on my YouTube channel. With that being said, YouTube has blocked my latest cover of Epica's song, Canvas of Life. I was able to successfully upload it onto Facebook and SoundCloud so it was very disappointing to me that I am unable to share it through YT. It's even more annoying since I retrieved the instrumental accompaniment from YouTube originally. This song is one of my favorites because it was the song were I realized that doing flute covers of metal songs was possible. Check it out on my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/sara.vertanen.7 All the best, ~Sara
